Abstract The metrological verification of log scanners requires logs with accurately known dimensions as test objects. measurement the lengths and diameters must be traceable back to SI (International System Units) unit length. results have reported corresponding uncertainties. uncertainties are required 5 10 times lower than maximum permissible errors allowed for scanner under test. This article presents a procedure reference using an off-the-shelf fringe projection system along uncertainty budgets measured dimensions. length determined from highly resolved mesh obtained by techniques computational geometry coordinate metrology. Corrections applied diameter values remove systematic effect caused scattering projected light below partially transparent surface. influence on is measurements calibrated artifacts, which also provide traceability illustrated example 2 m 280 mm. budgets, confirmed repeat measurements, result in expanded (confidence interval 95%) 6 mm 0.13 diameter, respectively. These low qualify accompanying evaluation objects scanners.
